Cornish Seal Sanctuary
The Cornish Sea Sanctuary is a must sea if you’re living in or visiting Cornwall. Not only is it a great family-friendly attraction but it does wonderful work rescuing seals and sea lions. The Sanctuary is also home to otters, penguins, potty paddock animals and a rock pool hosting a wide range of marine creatures. It’s a great place to introduce children to marine rescue and the importance of animal welfare. You can even explore behind the scenes at the heart of marine rescue in Cornwall’s only working Seal Hospital. The sanctuary itself is tucked against the picturesque backdrop of the Helford River, near the village of Gweek. Dogs on leads are more than welcome to visit the Sanctuary with you so it’s an ideal dog walking spot in Helston. There are a few areas in which dogs are not permitted; on the Safari Bus, inside the Seal Rescue Hospital and the inside area of the Cafe. However they do have sheltered seating outside of the cafe.
The Shipwrights Arms
Nestled on the banks of the Helford River this picturesque pub has stunning views across the passage from their much coveted pub garden. It’s the perfect place to relax, eat, drink and unwind and catch up with friends. The view is ever changing with the high-tide lapping up against the sea wall or the birds wade through the river at low tide. They serve tasty, wholesome food and great beer. It’s the perfect, friendly retreat for the whole family including your four-legged friend. Whilst your here, there are some wonderful walks long the Helford River that you can your doggy can enjoy.
